    Role of high-spin hyperon resonances in the reaction of γp→K+K+Ξ−\gamma p \to K^+ K^+ \Xi^-

The recent data taken by the CLAS Collaboration at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility for the reaction of γp→K+K+Ξ−\gamma p \to K^+ K^+ \Xi^- are reanalyzed within a relativistic meson-exchange model of hadronic interactions. The present model is an extension of the one developed in an earlier work by Nakayama, Oh, and Haberzettl [Phys. Rev. C 74, 035205 (2006)]. In particular, the role of the spin-5/2 and -7/2 hyperon resonances, which were not included in the previous model, is investigated in the present study. It is shown that the contribution of the Σ(2030)\Sigma(2030) hyperon having spin-7/2 and positive parity has a key role to bring the model predictions into a fair agreement with the measured data for the K+Ξ−K^+\Xi^- invariant mass distribution.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures, REVTe

Tilings of the Sphere by Edge Congruent Pentagons

We study edge-to-edge tilings of the sphere by edge congruent pentagons, under the assumption that there are tiles with all vertices having degree 3. We develop the technique of neighborhood tilings and apply the technique to completely classify edge congruent earth map tilings.Comment: 36 pages, 34 figure

Perception of Current and Former Students towards Attended Music Programs

    Get PDF
The job market for musicians has always been competitive. This study aims to provide a better understanding of the perspectives of music students, and retrospective perception from graduates towards their training in music schools. The vast majority of participants reported that they are happy with their current jobs. More than half of the respondents ranked music schools as very successful in preparing them for the job market. Majority of the respondents believe that music schools should include more job-preparation courses in their offerings to prepare students for the always competitive music job market. More practical curriculum is advocated by some respondents

Ultimatum Game, Loss Aversion, and Status Quo Bias in Action: The Case of Privatization of PCCW

    Get PDF
In 2008, Pacific Century Regional Development and China Netcom Corporation, two major shareholders of Pacific Century Cyber Works (PCCW, 00008.hk), proposed privatization of the firm listed in Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Minority shareholders opposed fiercely. The proposal, although endorsed in special shareholders meeting in February 2009, was challenged in Court and overturned, due to allegations of vote-rigging in the shareholders meeting. One interesting aspect of this episode is that, while the offer by major shareholders was very attractive compare to the current share price, it is hard to understand why relatively large percentage of shareholders voted against the offer. The percentage deviates from what often found in ultimatum game experiments, as the offer proposed by the major shareholders was comparable to the median offers in a lot of ultimatum game experiments. This could be understood through loss aversion, which predict a bias towards status quo

Timed Chi: Modeling, Simulation and Verification of Hardware Systems

    Get PDF
Timed Chi (chi) is a timed process algebra, designed for Modeling, simulation, verification and real-time control. Its application domain consists of large and complex manufacturing systems. The straightforward syntax and semantics are also highly suited to architects, engineers and researchers from the hardware design community. There are many different tools for timed Chi that support the analysis and manipulation of timed Chi specifications; and such tools are the results of software engineering research with a very strong foundation in formal theories/methods. Since timed Chi is a well-developed algebraic theory from the field of process algebras with timing, we have the idea that timed Chi is also well-suited for addressing various aspects of hardware systems (discrete-time systems by nature). To show that timed Chi is useful for the formal specification and analysis of hardware systems, we illustrate the use of timed Chi with several benchmark examples of hardware systems
